San Juan’s iconic place: The Arsenal.

As its names says this building was a Spanish naval station built in the 18th century that many years later became a citadel with storage, offices and kitchens for the workers. In the American-Spanish War played a very important role for the defected Spanish army because they were allowed to remain at The Arsenal until they find out a way to get out of the island.

The history told that this place was the last where the Spanish empire stay in the Americas and until this day still remains the canons that were use in the 19th century. Later on was also use as a warehouse and ship reapair shop until the year 1898.

The building features an stunning combination of diferent architectural styles of the Spanish colonial culture such as Neoclassic, caracteristic of the years 1800 when the construction of this building begans. The visitors of this place can recibe a guiaded tour that provide insights into the Arsenal´s role during the war and its impact on the grown of the region, thing that makes it even more insteresting and such a joy to visit for the Puerto Rican history enthusiasts.
